Residential Caretaker

One of the primary responsibilities or a residential caretaker is to maintain the grounds and buildings of the residential complex. Some of the main duties involved in the position include fixing lights, plumbing, repairing water fixtures, and electrical faults, as well as performing other light maintenance tasks. In addition, the caretaker is responsible for overseeing resident and visitor behaviour as well as the security of the site
Residential caretakers should have basic handyman skills, including experience in plumbing, electrical and other minor maintenance tasks. In addition, a candidate must be willing to work long hours, typically live on site, and be on call at any time of the day or night. Organisational and communications skills, computer literacy and inter-personal skills are beneficial for applicants
There is no need to have a degree or diploma when applying for a residential caretaker position. However, most employers prefer applicants with experience in a similar field, or with a background in a relevant trade. Basic entry-level salaries in this position start at about £19,000, although wages depend on location and responsibilities, with accommodation often offered as part of the salary package.
