Senior Buyer
A senior buyer is responsible for purchasing merchandise for retail outlets such as boutiques and department stores. Applicants need to have knowledge of economic and market trends in order to maximise profit and predict customer purchasing patterns
A senior buyer’s duties include issuing enquiries, chasing bids and reviewing bids. They are required to form bid tabulations, which should be reviewed by the project teams. They need to negotiate prices with suppliers as well as agree to terms and conditions. Excellent communication skills are needed to liaise with other buyers and deal with suppliers
Applicants need to have a university degree and other relevant qualifications such as a Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply certificate. They need to understand strategic sourcing and have project management skills. Additionally, applicants should have marketing, research and computer skills.
They need to be able to create purchasing contracts and negotiate cheap prices. Employees in this position usually work 40 hours a week; however, overtime may be required during peak seasons. Salaries are in the range of £30,000 to £35,000 a year.
